You Will Be Inspired To The Action

Posted by: Barb on Jul 06, 2007

One of the things we hear often about the Law of Attraction is that we can’t just wish for something and expect it to happen.

We can’t expect all of our visualizations to come to fruition if we don’t do something about it.

This is the part of manifesting that seems the hardest for people to really understand.

John Assaraf, one of the teachers in The Secret, seems to mention “action” quite a bit - both in the movie and in all the appearances he’s made that I’ve seen. On his own site, he writes about action, saying

We are moving from motivation, to what I call motive-action. The emphasis is on action, because without that, even the best information in the world is a waste of time.

I mean no disrespect to Mr. Assaraf, but I get put off when people say that we have to “take action” with regards to LoA. People seem to take this to mean that we have to figure out how we’re going to get what we want.

That’s just not our job.

Abraham, when explaining the Law of Deliberate Creation, said something similar (the bold is my emphasis)

So what we are wanting to do with this recording is to stimulate you to the awareness that of course you are taking action now. You have intended action. That is part of the deliciousness of this physical world in which you live. But you did not intend to do your creating through action. You intended to do your creating through thought, and to enjoy that which you have created with your body. If you understand that as you set forth thought in advance with emotion, you have launched your creation — and then you walk through space and time toward that time in the future expecting that it will be there. Then we say to you, from that Joyful creation that you have launched into the future, you will be inspired to the action that is action in Joy — and that is our point. When you are taking action in your now, and it is not action in Joy, it is our absolute promise to you that it will not lead to a happy ending. It cannot. It defies law.

So then we sit there and think, “How will I know if it’s inspired action?” Understanding the inspired part is especially difficult for those of us who are not familiar with following our intuition, or are just learning how to do so (like me D ).

I recently saw Bob Doyle - another teacher from The Secret - speaking about just this idea.

Bob explained it like this (bold is my emphasis again)

You’re going to have to take some action, but it’s not that you have to figure it out. All you have to do is just follow your intuition, and just go do it. It’s going to come very naturally - it’s going to be fun, it’s going to feel in the flow, and it’s going to bring you closer to your desires. Yes, there’s action to be taken. It’s not going to feel like work, though. And sometimes the Law of Attraction can occur like magical, like “how did this happen? I just put this out 5 minutes ago and here it is…

It really is this easy! To prove it to you, I’m sharing a recent manifestation of my own. You’ll see how I did nothing to figure out how we were going to get what we wanted. AND how it was like Bob said, “I just put this out 5 minutes ago and here it is…”!

——————————————

My husband, Dave, had been needing a dresser for a long time. We had been looking on Freecycle and asking relatives, etc., but it wasn’t happening.

The other day, as we were driving our kids to an ice-skating class, we saw lots of yard sales - many which had dressers out. We didn’t have the time to stop, or the money to buy one (pay day was a few days away). Dave moaned a bit as we drove by the ones that had dressers.

On the way home from the class, we saw more. Dave grumbled about wishing we had the money to get one.

So as we were driving home, the thought, “We don’t need to have money to get a dresser, it can come to us other ways” went through my head. Then I affirmed, “People love to give me things.”

Almost home, we saw a yard sale in our neighborhood. Dave had to get home to get ready for work, but I felt that I wanted to drive over to the yard sale.

This was very strange for me. I knew I didn’t have money to buy anything. I didn’t know what I’d find, but knew I didn’t have money for it. And I don’t typically go to yard sales unless I know I’ll be able to buy something if I want it.

I kept the kids in the car and drove over there. The stuff looked nice, so I got out of the minivan and looked around.

Now, I also need to point out that it’s strange that I drove there instead of walked. It would have been only a 5 minute walk.

I saw some clothes that might fit my daughter, but realized she has so many clothes that I didn’t need to get her anything. As I was walking away, I saw a dresser there that looked like it wasn’t for sale, but I asked about it any way.

The woman said I could have it! I didn’t understand her at first as her first language is not English. She repeated that she didn’t want it any more, and I could have it.

I knew immediately that it was for me and said, “I’ll take it!”. She showed me that it was not in the best condition, but it’s definitely usable (and better than many we’ve seen at thrift stores, etc.)!!

As I walked to my car to open it up, my usual thoughts of “I should say no, I should pay for it, something…” popped into my head. Especially because I could hear her husband talking urgently to her, like he didn’t want her just giving it to me (they were speaking in Spanish).

I wiped those thoughts out of my head and walked back over to pick it up. The woman helped me carry it to the van and it fit perfectly in the back. I thanked her and started to get in the car. Then I started to think I should go back and at least buy a shirt - I knew I had 50 cents for a shirt.

But I didn’t want it - it didn’t “feel good”. So I didn’t. I just thanked the Universe for this gift, drove home and surprised my husband with a yardsale find that I didn’t have to buy!!

Now, if you absolutely must take action, I think that Alan Cohen put it best in a recent workshop I attended, when he said

Take an action step that signifies belief that I’m on my way to my dreams.

So all you have to figure out is what you would do if you completely believed that your dreams are possible, and do that!

Thanks to gragsie for use of his “action” flickr photo, and to stewf for use of his dresser flickr photo.

Remember your power. Feel your power. Embrace your power.

Barb, Excellent post! This is a topic that I feel doesn’t get enough discussion. I am somewhat surprised at the number of people who seem to feel the need to justify what they attract by attaching some sort of “work -exchange” to the process. I’ve personally met so many people that just can’t accept the fact that they don’t have to “get out there and make it happen” in order to attract their desires. I’ve started calling this the “Bulldog” approach to LOA! They just seem to feel the need to grab on with all they have and really “drive” the process. The really grand part is that LOA gives them exactly what they think is necessary to achieve their desires…a lot of work! -)

Clyde, You are so right. I believe it’s been driven into us. Maybe that it’s not worth it if it’s free… that it’s worth more if we work (hard) for it? Personally, I have to change the belief that getting stuff for free is “cheating”. For example, I’ve traded jewelry for things I’ve wanted and both parties were happy (really happy!) about the trade. But then I start to think “Was it really worth it? That piece of jewelry was relatively easy for me to make but that (thing I got) would have been hard for me to make/get/do myself!” I think it’s all a “bulldog” approach to life, that’s been drilled into us over and over, from our relations, TV and movies, songs, etc. Let’s change it! hi Aaron, All fellow beings have very well described about your blog in depth, and am likely much good thinks out of it….! Though the ultimate goal is money, I think only this is not enough. A good and healthy relation will get it done more things well..! And this is what LOA is for..! I mean money is required for healthy relationship in life.

The unseen power of the Universe is no longer a mystical reference; it's a scientific truth.
